Nashville Therapy Group

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your rates?

Our rates for licensed therapists are $175 to $300 per session.

Our rates for pre-licensed therapists are $125 to $175 per session.

Our rates for student interns are $50 to $125 per session.

Some therapists may have higher rates, and some therapists may have lower rates. If you are concerned about the cost of therapy, talk with us. All of our therapists make room in their schedules for clients who need reduced rates.

Investing in your emotional and relational health is a value we take very seriously. This isn’t about the cost for an hour of our time. It’s about the cost for the potential to permanently change your life for the better, and we make sure that each session is worth your while.

We are happy to provide you with a Good Faith Estimate for the total cost of therapy at your request.

Do you accept insurance?

Our therapists do not accept insurance. We do accept HSA and FSA cards as payment for sessions, and Nashville Therapy Group is considered an out-of-network provider, which means your insurance company may reimburse a portion of your costs if you file a claim yourself.

We know it can be frustrating trying to find a therapist in Nashville who accepts insurance. We choose not to for very important reasons, primarily because most insurance companies aren’t concerned about marital satisfaction or relational wellness through stressful times. They tend to only focus on medical outcomes, requiring a label that permanently diagnoses individuals, often unnecessarily, and sometimes dishonestly.

Nashville Therapy Group is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards, allowing you to keep your medical records private from any insurance companies or employers interested in your mental health history. By simply paying in full as needed, you maintain complete control and confidentiality of your sessions.

Where are you located?

For our Main Nashville location, follow these directions:

Our main office is located at 2021 21st Avenue South in Hillsboro Village, Suite 410. It is a lovely red brick historical building that used to be the old St. Bernard Academy and Convent. It's easiest to turn onto Bernard Avenue from 21st and you'll see it. You can park in any Visitor spot around the building.

If your appointment is in the evening or weekend, you may need the Access Code to enter the building. Please contact your therapist directly to receive this information.

The easiest way up is to take the RAMP ENTRANCE (to the right of the main entrance) and take the elevator to the 4th floor, Suite 410. When you exit the elevator, take a right, and you'll see our sign. Come on in and have a seat in our waiting room until your therapist meets you!

For our East Nashville location, follow these directions:

Our East Nashville office is located at 806 Meridian Street in the McFerrin Park neighborhood next to the Nashville Crystal Store and directly across the street from Sean Brock’s restaurant, Audrey. Feel free to park anywhere nearby, as there is ample street parking.

The front house at our address is occupied by our friends at Delilah Counseling, so please do not enter through their front door.

Our building is in the backyard, so as you arrive, please enter through the RAINBOW GATE at the end of the driveway and follow the path to the building with the “Nashville Needs Therapy” mural. Come on in and have a seat in our waiting room until your therapist comes out to greet you!

For our Brentwood location, follow these directions:

Our Brentwood office is located at 103 Continental Place just off I-65 in the historic Maryland Farms business hub, providing a convenient location for clients who live or work in Williamson County.

From Franklin Road, turn East onto Maryland Way and follow it until you reach Continental Place. As you turn into Continental Place, you might notice that it feels like a bit of an office park maze full of nondescript red brick buildings. Don’t worry. You’re in the right place.

Our building is 103. It’s a bit more square than the others and it has a flagpole out front. It’s best to park around back and enter through the double doors.

We’re in Suite 204. Take the elevator to the second floor. You’ll notice glass doors on your right that say “Therapy Space.” Come on in and have a seat in our waiting room until your therapist comes out to greet you.

Questions About The Process

Am I a good candidate for therapy?

We believe therapy is for everyone. Whether you’re hoping to reduce symptoms of severe mental illness or increase daily well-being, there is space for you here. Please contact us to be matched with a therapist who will meet your needs.

How long does therapy last?

Each client has a unique background, distinct goals, and varying availability. We often find that significant progress can be made within six to eight sessions. Some clients see progress sooner, others prefer to work more slowly and deliberately if their journey is prolonged.

Nashville Therapy Group is committed to providing tools and preparation to equip you beyond your sessions. It is not in your best interest to keep you longer than you need help, nor is it ethical practice for therapy to extend beyond the goals and needs of the client. We hope to empower you as a person, helping you meet your emotional and relational goals and equipping you to do so long after sessions have ended.

What if I don’t feel like my therapist is a good fit?

Don’t worry, we don’t take it personally. Not everyone is a good fit. We completely get that. You have the right to choose your therapist and to switch therapists at any time. We want you to feel good about your choice, and we will work hard to find the right therapist for you, even if that means referring you to providers outside our practice. If you don’t feel like your therapist is a good fit, just let us know. You can speak with your therapist directly, or you can reach out to our Clinical Director.

Are session confidential?

Nashville Therapy Group considers confidentiality one of the key components of the therapeutic relationship. Your stories, personal feelings, emotions, and histories are your privilege to share and completely yours to entrust within the confines of your sessions. If you are meeting in the office, please know that the utmost effort has gone into making the room secure and private. If online sessions are held within your own home, you can feel comfortable that you are in control of the environment around you.

Prior to your first session, you will review and sign our Client Services Agreement. This agreement includes Informed Consent and clarifies how information is shared and kept confidential. It should be noted that there are a few exceptions to the limitations of confidentiality, in accordance with Tennessee state law as well as professional ethics and guidelines:

If your therapist believes you are at risk of hurting yourself or another person, your therapist may breach confidentiality to protect your or parties in potential harm.

If your therapist suspects child or elder abuse in any form, Tennessee state law requires your therapist to report any relevant information to the proper authorities.

If your therapist is subpoenaed for court, your therapist may be required to disclose confidential information, though every effort will be given to uphold and protect your rights and you will be notified of the subpoena prior to any disclosure.

Questions About Us

What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?

Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs and TLMFTs) are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy who diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of relationship systems. Therapists focus on understanding your problems from a systemic, relational perspective. Marriage and Family Therapists are recognized as a core mental health profession along with psychiatry, psychology, social work, and psychiatric nursing. Therapists take a holistic perspective to health care, and they are concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families.

What is a Professional Counselor?

Professional counselors (LPCs and LPC-MHSPs) are members of the counseling profession. They are similar to other mental health professionals, such as marriage and family therapists, psychologists or social workers, in that all of these professionals work to help people who are in crisis or distress through individual, group, and couples counseling. Nonetheless, the counseling profession has distinct differences, such as a focus on individual wellness and personal developmental processes and interventions. Counselors have graduate degrees and have undergone post-graduate supervised experiences.

What is a licenced therapist?

Licensed therapists have met all of the state requirements to hold and maintain a professional license. You’ll notice designations such as LMFT, LPC-MHSP, or LCSW after their names. The process of getting licensed takes years of education, thousands of clinical hours of experience, and considerable follow-through. Licensed therapists have earned their credentials and often have niches and specialties, whereas pre-licensed clinicians are more likely to be working to find their “treatment of choice” and “best fit” client. Licensed clinicians are almost always more expensive than their unlicensed colleagues, but you will likely notice the difference their experience brings.

What is a pre-licensed therapist?

Pre-licensed therapists have completed therapy internships and earned their graduate degree, but they have not yet met the state requirements to possess a professional license. You’ll notice designations such as TLMFT or LPC (temp) after their names, or they will emphasize their graduate degree rather than a licensure. Pre-licensed therapists continue to meet with a clinical supervisor. They typically cost more than interns but less than licensed therapists. They may have three to four years of experience doing therapy and may already specialize in one area or another.

What is an intern therapist?

Interns are students in Masters or Doctoral programs who are earning hours towards licensure. You’ll notice an Intern designation after their names, as they are still learning to be clinicians. They are supervised both at their internship site (where they do therapy) and in school. Interns are newer to the field, and their fees are much lower.

Questions About Our Policies

What are your hours?

Our offices are open from 7am to 9pm Monday through Friday. Some therapists also choose to work Saturdays and Sundays. Availability varies depending on the therapist, and we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs.

What are your methods of payment?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards. We accept debit, FSA, and HSA cards. We accept cash and personal checks. Payment is due at the end of each session.

What is your cancellation policy?

All clinic appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance or the full fee will be charged. You can reschedule or cancel your appointment by communicating directly with your therapist.

Of course, we understand that life happens. Sickness, accidents, and emergencies can be entirely unpredictable and sometimes 24 hours notice is impossible. Grace and compassion will be extended to those with extenuating circumstances, and no charge will ever be made when canceling due to inclement weather, as safety always comes first.

Do you offer telehealth or online therapy? How does it work?

Yes, our therapists offer online therapy.

Instead of meeting your therapist in our offices, you’ll meet via video conferencing software. You and your therapist will schedule a time to meet online, then your therapist will send you a link to join the video call. When you click on the link, you’ll see your therapist appear on your screen, and your session will progress as it would in-person.

How do I make an appointment?

Contact us and schedule a free phone consultation. We will happily assess your needs and help you select an available therapist. You can fill out the contact form below, email us, or leave a voicemail at any time, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
