Nashville Therapy Group

Chad Douglas Johnson, TLMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist at the Nashville and Brentwood Offices

Change happens with acceptance, so let’s start there.

What I love most about therapy is connecting with people. You have a unique story that is different from everyone else. What brought you here may be different from anyone else, and that’s okay. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to this work. I believe you have the potential for change; maybe you just need someone to join you on the journey.

My approach to therapy is simple and relaxed. I am an accepting and non-judgemental person who prioritizes you. We will work together on your goals. We may discuss hard things, but we will balance that with laughter. We will go at your pace, but I will challenge you when needed. Most of all, you will feel heard, understood, and respected when you are here.

Talking about journeys, here’s mine. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for over 20 years in nonprofit, government, education, corporate, and creative ad agency settings. While I have always prioritized helping others in my work, I wanted to be in a deeper relationship with people. An accomplished professional, husband of 18 years, and proud father of two boys, I am excited to draw from my own experience, while eager to learn your unique story, as together we pursue positive change and growth for your life.

Clinical Experience

Prior to joining Nashville Therapy Group, I was at Daystar Counseling Ministries and the Lipscomb Family Therapy Center, where I worked with youth and adolescents (ages 4-18), adults, parents, couples, and whole family systems.

My integrative therapeutic approach is rooted in common factors, and influenced by systems theory, cognitive-behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, Gottman relationship therapy, and play therapy. I also stay up to date on other evidence-based practices, prioritizing what fits best for my clients.

Clinical Specialties

I enjoy working with youth, adolescents, adults, couples, parents, and families, and welcome diversity. My specific areas of therapeutic interest include children, family issues and conflict, parenting, young adults, life transitions, couple relationships (dating, pre-marital, cohabitating, married), men’s issues, work and career, anxiety and depression, self-esteem and self-worth, purpose and fulfillment, and spirituality.
